Americana Style Mason Jars

I love decorating with things that are Americana!

Starting with Memorial Day through the end of summer I love showcasing items I make or find that are either Americana or lemons. Both scream summer time to me.

Here are a couple of great, easy to make ideas for your Americana decor this summer.

Americana Star Lanterns

These Star Mason Jars are so cute and easy to make.

Materials:

  • Clean Mason Jar (or any other jar will work, like a salsa jar)
  • Duct tape (you can cut a star out of) or adhesive vinyl (cutting a star on your cutting machine) or star stickers
  • Sand or aquarium gravel
  • Red, white and blue spray paint
  • Twine or ribbon
  • Tea lights

Directions:

  1. Place the adhesive star on your jar
  2. Place mason jar upside down on the turn table.  Holding the spray paint 8-10 inches away from the mason, apply spray paint in light coats.  Slowly rotate the the jar or walk around the table it’s on and continue spraying a light coat of paint until the entire mason jar is covered.  Allow time to dry between coats.  Continue the above process until you cannot see through the paint.
  3. After you have coated the mason jar, allow about 2 hours drying time.  Carefully peel away the vinyl or sticker from the mason jar.
  4. Add some aquarium gravel and a votive candle to the inside of the mason jar.  Finish the look by adding some twine around the neck of the jar.

America Flag Lanterns

These Flag Mason Jars are so cute and easy to make.

Materials:

  • Clean Mason Jar (3)
  • Red, white and blue acrylic paint
  • Foam paint brush, 1″ wide
  • Twine or ribbon

Directions:

  1. Paint (2) mason jars white and allow to dry (1) hour
  2. Paint (1) mason jar blue and allow to dry (1) hour
  3. On (2) jars paint the red stripes, start with the top one, then do the bottom, then do the one in the middle (helps to space them out)
  4. On the blue jar paint white stars, this may take 2 coats of paint allowing each coat to dry in between.
  5. You can add a ribbon at the top or leave them plain as the image on the right shows.
  6. Add flowers and enjoy!
