With all of our connections on social media, texting and emails we have lost the art of genuine friendships and relationships. You know the ones where you stop your busy day and grab coffee or lunch with a friend, for no other reason than you just want to spend time together. Unfortunately, we are seeing even some marriages losing the art of connecting as a result.

This has truly become a lost art in society in general. We have become too busy being busy to invest in a true relationship.

“Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
Hebrews 10:25 ESV

When we moved from the West Coast to the East Coast, I was told folks love to gather down here in person over texting and social media.

What we found once we arrived here was folks down south were too busy being busy just like those on the West Coast.

Our calendars are jam packed with things to do, places to go then we head home exhausted and feeling empty or alone. You see God created us a relational beings, meant to interact with each other in personal and face to face encounters.

Growing up we did not have the computers, cell phones and social media. If we wanted to talk to a friend we went to their home or picked up the phone, hanging on the wall and dialed their number…having a real conversation with them (not sending a text.)

Life was far simpler and friendships were real back then!

A lost art worth reviving!

Recently, I decided maybe we were all waiting for each other to call, so no one called. So, I decided to reach out to a friend and just ask, “hey you want to meet for lunch?” The answer was yes and we made plans to grab lunch the next day. We met up for a delicious lunch and some old-fashioned conversation (no cell phones) and really enjoyed our time.

Now each week I reach out to one of my friends and just say let’s do lunch or coffee…something amazing is happening!

We are reviving the lost art of true friendships/relationships one friend at a time!

Who do you need to call today and pause your busy schedule to have lunch or coffee with?

What are you waiting for, go pick up the phone and make that call to make plans to revive this lost art form in your own life!
